Hello, I am happy to hear about your guinea pigs and know how excited you are about it!
I am building a hutch too for about 3 guinea pigs, which will also fit 4 piggies in it and of course 2 with plenty of space!
[*]
Materials[/*]
I would recommend using plywood for the roof and back of the hutch about
1cm - 2cm thick. The rest tounge and groove. At the front of the hutch you will need metal bars but not too wide a gap or the piggies might suffocate themselves. To nake it look nice the sides and part of the front could have shiplap on it.
[*]Size[/*]
Also I think it should be 5ft x 2ft and two levels for 3 or 4 guinea pigs the height is up to you though maybe about 18inches. If you are just getting two guinea pigs maybe a single floor but the same size. The hutch will need to be lifted off the ground slighly I recommend about 3 to 4 inches.
[*]
Designs[/*]
I would seperate the floors into about two using a divider. Ont he front of the hutch part of it will need to be covered because other wise its not warm and cosy!
[*]toys[/*]
Too make it more intersting for your guinea pigs you should have toys in there. Such as tunnels, cosies, fleeces, play balls, chews and hideouts. For the day time you should have a run outside, around 4ft x 4ft for two piggies or 5ft x 5ft for 3 or 4piggies.
[*]Other[/*]
You should bring your guinea pigs in for cuddles occansionly ,and always have hay, dried food and water in the hutch. They love fresh vegtables as well such as: carrots, cabbage lettuce [but not iceberg], and brocclii.
Good Luck with your guinea pigs!:p
