i'm trying to work out which way to go with organising hutches to accomodate my piggies. molly and pippa will stay together as they have been for the last 4 years. tiny will be getting neutered so that he can live with beau - they have a mesh wall seperating them at present. blossom will have her baby girls living with her - i think she has 3. but that leaves the 2 baby males. i want them to hopefully live together but i know that they may fight if near the females. does anyone know if they will still fight if they are neutered or will they be calmer. any advice would be great.

From what I've read neutering makes no difference to boars. It just stops them from being fertile. It's normally only done so a boar can live with sows. I'm sure more experienced members will come along with more advise soon....

I can only help in respect to the fact that neutering will NOT change the personality or behaviour of your piggy, only his ability to make babies :)

I agree, the majority of their behaviour is learned and so it wouldn't make much of a difference. My 2 boys live together, they are un-neutered and are across the way from my girls (there can't be more than 7/8 feet between the 2 hutches.) They have their squabbles, but it is more over who gets control over the food and who gets the best veggies. If you provide them with enough space and multiple hidey holes, they should be fine.
The general rule with boys, particularly when they're going through their hormonal stage (4-12 months old, I think!) is get 2 of everything. 2 water bottles, 2 food bowls if you can etc. That way if they want to share, they can, but if they don't, they can be independant and still be around each other.
Once they have clearly established who is in charge, it will make things a lot easier and I think they should get along just fine :))

thanks everyone. i thought that was the case but just wanted to be sure. my daughter has just said if they don't settle she will always have the 2 boars in her bedroom - well away from the girls

So Rebel will still be Don Juan but without the lead in his pencil! :)) :)) :))

i will have a block of 4 hutches - each measuring 4' x 2' and all having a ramp upto an upper level. hopefully this will give them the space they need but not sure if they will be far enough away from the females. i guess only time will tell:):)
