Thank you to Claire W for telling me about making a split level thing in the hutch, I decided to try it today and I have a C&C grid that I was going to use, then put newspaper on top and vetbed or fleece. I put the grid in this morning and secured it in and then I realized that the gap I left for the ramp probably wouldn't be wide enough, so I'm not really sure what to do. Is it possible to cut C&C grids so I could make it smaller, or would that make it more sharp or dangerous?
Here are some photos to explain what I was trying to do (please excuse the messy hutch, clean out day is Sunday)
The place I wanted to put the split level:

The grid secured in (I would put newspaper and fleece/vetbed on top and then have a ramp down but I don't think a ramp would fit)

If it's not very high they might not need a ramp. I would make it a little smaller though to give them some room to get up and down. If you are left with sharp edges after sawing you can always cover the edge with ducttape or just turn it so that it's towarts the wall.

Ok thank you, I'll try that. The photo isnt very clear but it is quite high I think they will need a ramp to get to it.

If you do have a ramp, it wouldn't have to be very big anyway so it should fit. If you are worried about sharp edges ect, you could fix a sheet of wood over the c & c grid if you know what I mean :) That way, you could just secure the ramp to the wood with a couple of nails like I did?
