Hello All,

I adopted two lovely 8 week girls yesterday. They are settling in nicely and have seen them eating and can tell they explored the cage last night😊

Spotted this is the cage this morning should I be concerned?

Don’t worry, guinea pigs excrete calcium through their urine which is what you are seeing here.

Make sure you feed a low calcium diet to include low calcium veg, one tablespoon of pellets per guinea pig per day and filter their drinking water to prevent bladder problems in the future.

Hi and welcome!

Just a little calcium in the wee (the normal way of excreting excess calcium in the diet) and some slightly more concentrated wee. Neither are a cause for concern since normal drinking levels vary from not drinking at all to drinking 300 ml or more in a day - and neither extreme will cause any kidney problems in the long term. You need to be concerned only over any sudden changes that come with a weight loss issue attached.
