Hello all. I'm newly registered here but have been reading this forum to gain a lot of information.
So after lots of research we decided to go for a c&c cage and have built it and cut the correx. Here's a pic of the cage so far. So I have read a lot of pros for the fleece liners and since I'm quite handy with a sowing machine I have decided to make some. I have sourced the fleece which was amazingly cheap and looks great. I am however struggling to find 100% cotton mattress protectors they all seem to be polyester with cotton skirt. Is this what you all use? Or is there somewhere you could recommend?
I have seen people say they have got theirs from IKEA, b&m and the range which I have been looking online and in these shops and all I have found are polyester and cotton skirts.

Here a photo of the cage so farIMG_20180827_100746.webp

Welcome to the forum
The cage looks amazing.
How many guinea pigs are going to live there?
Looking forward to seeing it completed.

Hey thanks for the reply. We are wanting 3 maybe 4 at a push but starting with two unless the breeder where we will gets ours from have more of the same sex.

Do you have liners? Do you know if the picture of the info for the mattress protector would be ok?

I use wood shavings for mine.

You say you are getting your guinea pigs from a breeder.
Do you know that the forum does not support intentional breeding but is pro- rescue?

This is stated in the rules we all agreed to when signing up.
Do you have a rescue near you?
You may want to think about giving these piggies a good home.

Merab's Slave. It was the rescue place that was nearest to us that pointed me towards this woman we are hopefully getting them from. They are not baby ones they are adults. We specifically asked for adult ones and the rescue lady said she knew someone who had some adult ones and she also breeds them.

I use moving blankets as the absorbent layer in my liners. They are really big and pretty cheap so you can make several liners from them. You can sew one or two layers of the moving blanket between fleece depending on how absorbent you want them to be. They are made out of recycled cotton fiber so they are pretty absorbent.

I've found some bath sheet towels for £5.99 for two so I might use them as my absorbent layer. Do I need a waterproof layer too or would fleece, towel, fleece be ok?

No, you wouldn't need it. I've seen it comments somewhere that it's advised that you don't have a waterproof layer, otherwise the wee can pool and keep the fleece damper than it should be.

I have a C&C set-up and just use fleece-towel-fleece without issues and change the fleece every two days. For the wettest corners, I've heard some people use bathmats so they don't have to change the fleece as often. I hope that helps! :)
