My daughter had two female guinea pigs. One died suddenly about 2 months ago. The other guinea pig (now about 3.5 years old) seems to be doing fine, but she has some bald spots. There doesn't appear to be irritation, itching or any other problem/symptom except for these few small bald spots. She actually has had one or two bald spots for a few years now, but one or two more have appeared. Any advice?

I would get her checked out by the vet, as this could be an ovarian cyst. One of mine has been diagnosed with this and the first signs were loss of fur.

Good luck!

So sorry, I should have welcomed you to the forum first! How rude of me. Welcome.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
As Lucinda said I would get her checked by the vets, definitely.
Where are the bald spots? If they re on her side then it is possible that she has ovarian cysts which can be treated.
So definitely take her to the vets.
Please let us know how you get on.

Piggies can lose fur if they are poorly but can also lose fur if they are feeling down or stressed. I know that might sound silly but could it be possible that your piggie is missing her cage mate. To protect the skin you can apply vaseline twice daily. I would take her to the vet to be on the safe side.

thank you

Thank you for your advice, and thank you for welcoming me. I will ask around for recommendations on a vet that treats guinea pigs. (I believe our regular vet only treats dogs and cats.) I did wonder about stress being the problem since her cage mate died suddenly and fairly recently. However, she seems to be doing fine other than the bald spots; in fact, she is easier to hold and less aggressive than she was when her friend was alive but she is still active and eating fine. I will let you know how it works out.
