Ok. I need to explain to mum why keeping the guinea pigs indoors all year round will be better than moving them outdoors. They will go out in their run in the spring and summer when the weather is nice but I would like to keep them indoors all year round.
My 2 boars live in their cage in my bedroom, if they stay indoors then I will save up for a bigger cage.

i think they interect better with you if they are indoors, i like having them indoors as i can talk to them when i like and dont look like a crazy lady talking to them outside. predators would be a good reason to keep them indoors :)

cant think of any other reasons sorry

i used to have patch outside and he got to scared so ever since ive always had my piggys in my bedroom, i think its nicer to wake up to there faces plus I'm so close to my pigs and dont think i would of been if they were outside :)

I agree, they interact more with you when they are indoors, they get used to everyday noises and become more laid back about things in general. One of the biggest pluses for me is that you can spot any sign of illness at a very early stage - a good point to tell your mum as if things are noticed early they are easier and generally cheaper to treat!

We used to put our gang back out in the shed over the summer months in a large hutch, however for the past two years they have been totally indoor piggies, just going out in the run during the day in the warmer months - I have to admit I love having them around.x)

If you plan to keep your two boys indoors I would definitely go for the biggest cage you can get and also change your bedding/fleece regularly to keep down any smells - nothing us mums like more than complaining about whiffy bedrooms!

Good luck.

I think my newbie Stitch is a great example of why they should live indoors. When we got him he'd been an outdoor pig for 3 years, everytime we went near him he ran away from us :(
Now he's been indoors for nearly 3 weeks and he's still about scared but he's getting braver with us every day, because he sees us loads more it's not as scary for him.

Well my guinea pigs have always livd outside and that doesn't make them less friendly. grrrr It's not cruel as long as you spend time with them, make sure their home is big enough and always clean and that they are of course warm. Instead of being just in a hutch outside, it's best to keep them their hutch in a shed like where my piggies are. :) Is this an option if you can't keep them inside?
