hello can * help me?

I have two female guineas who i got about 2 years ago from someone who had no time for them anymore.

They have never liked being out of the cage and i dont know what to do with them when i clean them out there getting worse instead of better they have a little house in there cage that they wont leave and try to get to at all costs. They handle fine but just hate being away from there cage its nero 3 and kind of small for 2 older guineas! any ideas? they do the toilet everywhere when they are out aswell.??:{

Guineas are naturally shy animals, so if they hide under their house you need to just remove the house then remove the guineas. They will be scared but better to be scared than have a dirty cage!
They do really need a bigger cage, try getting hold of a nero 4, or a cage around 120cm long.
and yep guineas do tend to poop everywhere.

i know ive got a nero 4 on order for them *** my pet shop had none left ive got my bunny in a ner 4 aswell but she gets free range of my livingroom bcoz hes trained .
Ive tried removing there house during the day bcoz they both dont fit well in it and just sit in there all day unless out to eat hay so they run about when the house isnt in and i replace it for them to sleep. I'm gona buy them some new toys and hopefully the bigger cage will help.!
I noticed today my shier one misty her pinky nail is bleeding at the root and she is biting it do uno what this could be?

what I do with my pigs when it is time for a cage cleaning, is I get a cardboard box and line it with newspaper and put them in there as I clean the cage. as for your situation, maybe try taking the pigloo house out of the cage and put it with them in a large cardboard box lined with newspaper and fresh litter so they feel more secure. they may just not be used to being handled much and need some more time. where do you keep the cage? if it is where there are a lot of loud noises they may retreat inside the piggy house because they're scared. talking to them softly and reassuring them can also help them to feel safe. and also, maybe a small treat like a piece of lettuce to give them while you are cleaning the cage.

i put mine in a pet carrying case which is next to their hutch...lol they watch me cleaning the cage and look at me in disbelief that i am throwing away their old hay lol

they are fine being handled they come up to me and stuff so it s not that they need more handling or time well i dont feel anyway i just feel like they dont like being out.. thansk for ure repliues theyev helped alot I'm gona spend some tlc with them 2nyt! ill maybe try that bath thing they might like that. there cage has alwasy been on the livinroom floor but am thinkihng about moving them to the spare room

Could you try raising their cage ? the floor isn't really ideal since you have to approach them from above and we and everything else loom over them which may be why they are a bit nervous

ive ordered the stand for the nero 4 so hopefully that helps

Some good advice there! I just let mine out for a runaround whilst I clean them out but then again I dont mind sweeping poop up :))

Regards the nail problem; do you cut their nails regularly? could it be a spur (hard skin protrusion that looks like a nail) which has torn and bled? these need to be trimmed in order to prevent this hapening. The piggies need their nails cut every month or so. If you are worried, please take her to the vet, it wont cost much and it could get infected if left :)

Mine too are very happy to have the run of my living room for most of the day. They were out for about 5 hours today as I had to wash the vetbed and dry it over the radiator! Although, they had lots of places to hide. I use callapsoble foot stalls with some comfy fleece for them to lie on, and they love it! They also like to sleep in a cubby hole on my cabinet, thats a firm favourite!

If I am at home, which I am alot of the time, they have the run of the place, they can play in the living room, or they can climb back in.

Do they have lots of comfy hidding places to go in while they have floor time?
I definatly think it helps, hope things sort themselves out xx:))

Mine do not like being stroked or picked up and will run if i do it in their large cage... i now put in a carrier and make them go into that. I then get them out that way... no where for them to run and once they are in my arms they are nice and calm...

Keep on picking them up every other day if you can at first and the smaller the space the easier it is to pick them up...
Their home is on the floor and i just make sure that when i approach the cage i kneel down and talk to them and they come out and have a nosey...

mine are like that
they don't mind when they are picked up and stroked i just cant get mine out of their hutch i think it is a comfort thing.

Some of mine come to me, others don't, they're all different! Oh and I've never managed to poop train any! They just poop everywhere and their slave (yep, that be me) cleans up after them.

I tend to pop them in a small dog basket I bought especially for them and they hide in their under a blanket while I clean them out.

When I start putting the new fresh hay in, they heads pop out and they get all excited and start to squeal as they know they're going in to fresh tasty hay! It's quite amusing!

Not sure about the nail thing though, so maybe let the vet look?

I let Honkey and Mervyn play on the floor while I clean their cage and the other piggies take turns, in the plastic washing basket, as it is so easy to clean it out clean, between the cage cleaning when cleaning out 5 cages.
I would take the house out for a while so they get used seeing you more rather than them hiding, none of my 9 pigs hide as they will come to the front of the cage everytime they see a human.
