Hello!

Are your piggies going to live in a hutch outside?

I don't think it'll matter too much where you put the tunnel/ hidey bridge but obviously it depends on how your set up is laid out.

You could put it in their bedroom under some hay?

My piggies 'bedroom' area isn't very big and the only thing they have in it is a small cat litter tray which I change everyday filled with newspaper small amount of bedding and a pile of hay!

Good luck with your piggys and sorry if my post wasn't very helpful. Can't wait to see piccies of your new additions. xx

hi there thank you so much for takeing the time to reply you have been a great help
yes they will be outside well in a shed they have a double hutch
so run with soild floor at the bottom and bedroom and well little bit at the side

but i want to do the best for them if that make sence
i will post piccies as soon as i get them i so can,t wait lol sad i know

Hello, I'm new to piggys aswell as I've had my rescued boys since 4th November this year. I've found the rescue where I adopted them from and this forum have given me a wealth of knowledge about caring for them from everything from food to what hay to use right through to their health needs. When I got mine we had the hutch outside but because we didn't have a shed with enough natural light we ended up bringing them in.

When ours were outside I put a wooden house inside their bedroom area and insulated it all around by stuffing hay in between the wooden house and the sides of the bedroom area of the hutch, and then. Put hay on top of the wooden house so thy were well insulated from damp n drafts. To keep that area toastie warm I placed wooden floor underlay at the bottom of their bedroom area hutch and then used layers of newspapers and a wooden fibre based bedding called comfy bed and then lots of hay so it was completely covered. The green underlay is very warm so this kept them very snug.

Anyway these are just the things I have learnt really but I'm still learning and loving every minute of it.

Can't wait to see your piccys of them.

another ask i know i,m a right pain in the ..... lol

do you use the same hay to feed them as for there bedding and to go in the hutch

i know they need meadow hay for there num num,s

big thank you all x

hi claire thank you so much for your help they look so cute love the one on the end right
shame it,s so far to manchester sure that one would fit just nice in my pocket lol

If they are going outside during the winter all I can say is use loooooots of hay to help keep them all snuggly and warm :) Guineas don't have fur, it is just hair (like our head hair) and like us all they don't like to get too cold

Just use nice cheap soft meadow hay (they will probably munch on it) for bedding and for food hay they might like timothy hay and things like that. Give them a couple of good sized handfuls along with their pellets each day :)

yep, and they can have alfalfa hay to eat too if they're still young but if they're adults it best not to feed alfalfa and feed meadow or timothy instead because alfalfa hay is too high in calcium :D

hi all thank you so much you have all been such a great help
obsessedwithanimals can i ask until what age can they have alfalfa hay i,m not sure at what age they become adults
my boys will be 12 weeks old when i get them is alfalfa hay very good for little one
also i thought if they had things that were high in calcium they could get stones or is that only when they are adults
so much to lean lol i,m so glad i found all the great people on here to help
your all worth more than any book x
