:...WOW!! HELP :...

*Background: Ok, so my two female piggies have been housed together for about 9 months since I got them both as babies. Hazel (the larger of the two) has always "picked" on Coconut (my smaller sized one) but have never been vicous in any way. They have always seemed to live happy together.

About a half hour ago they just started attacking each other! 8... They are both chattering like crazy and keep going at each other. They started fighting so bad that they both managed to rip some of the other's hair out! They are bitting each other and what seems like rolling around trying to pin the other down!

I immediately put up a barrier in the cage to seperate them. Hazel is not happy about this at all and is pacing the barrier still chattering. And poor coconut is curled in the corner shaking.

I don't know what to do??! I am scared one is going to kill the other or do some major damage. 8...

ANY ADVICE??

Not sure exactly, sorry, I have had girls fight like that when I introduced them and they were sorting out dominance but not since. Maybe Coconut got sick of being picked on and stood up for herself only to be put back down again. Do either of them have any injuries that need attention? Best keep them separeted till somone more experienced comes on. Make sure they can't knock down the barrier. Hope they sort out their tiff and are ok.

I personally would keep them separated. A fighting hair-ball is a sign they mean business. The chattering from Hazel just means she's not ready to give up & i'd bet given the chance she'd be back at Coconut for Round 2 whilst Coconut sounds like she has had enough.

If blood has NOT been drawn then you can try to re-introduce them on neutral ground but if they show signs that they're going to fly at one another again then i'd keep them separate permanantly as they can & will inflict some really nasty injuries on one another - it's so not worth it.

For whatever reason they have, hopefully for the moment, decided they're not friends but it may be a temporary situation. Keep us posted :)

I can't really add to what Niki has said, but really hope they can sort out their differences. It's always worrying (and a bit of a mystery) when two piggies who have got on well together for so long suddenly fall out like this. Best of luck. x

My boars do this {:| It's really annoying. My guinea Pip always does that daft chattering to my bro's guinea, rodney, but they never fight properly. Well, once Rodney bit pip, and now Pip tends to back off more. But I guess all guineas are different and unfortunately I can't help you there. But I will tell you one more thing. My old guineapig, Chichi, who unfortunately passed away, used to fight with Rodney ALL THE TIME. They used to share a cage, but not for long, that was for sure. They used to draw blood and fur from eachother, and the only thing we could do was seperate them. I think that's what your better off doing :).

I hope you get your problem sorted out :)

Pip & Charl xx
