About a month ago I had to remove a boar from the main cage. He's about 6-8 months old. He was fighting with my dominate male pig and would not stop mounting and chasing around the other two. ( 4 total)

Now he is caged separate but next to the other pigs. He will throw a tantrum, screaming, grunting, chewing on cage trying to climb the cage, exc. Until he is tired and sleeps then has another go. I have tried removing the cage and placing him away from the group so he cant see them. He does the same. When he is allowed outside his cage to roam around and get exercise he just tries everything in this power to get into the main cage and will freak out. He can't be left alone with any of my pigs because he will hassle them to no end.

When they go outside for play time the boar dug his way under the cage dividers to get to the other pigs!

Will neutering him work to calm him? I'm ready to try anything. I feel so bad for having him by himself. But he draws blood with the biggest male. :(

Neutering will not calm him down really, but he might be more of a ladies man and may work fine with ladies?

He's so young, it seems a shame he should have to live alone all his life... He seems like he really wants to be with other pigs even though he doesn't know how to play nice.

I have to agree with skrikopanik that having him neutered and then introduce to a girl or two of his own age is probably the best thing to do. Neutering won't sadly calm him down, it just takes away his ability to make babies.

I think the poor boy has a bad case of teeneage hormones, but is desperate for company as he isn't able to understand what he is doing wrong.

It pays to look for a really good, experienced vet for neutering, as that cuts down a lot on the risks and problems during the op and recovery. You have to factor in a 4-6 weeks waiting period before he is allowed to be with any girls. 4 weeks is about 95% safe, 6 weeks 100%.

Thank you for the advice I wasn't sure if it would change anything. Maybe I can wait out his teenage stage. But he is really frustrated and hates being by himself. I'd love to give him a girlfriend, but I do have 3 other boars and that could be a baby risk according to my hubby who isn't keen on another pig!
