HELP open wound on pig

I’ve just found this wound on piggies. I handle them all multiple times a day and have only just seeen this it’s started to scab over. I have no idea how this has happened there’s been no bad fighting between the group and they live on fleece liners. Does anyone have any advice on what to do? I’ve literally just come home from the vets with another piggie so I’m feeling really overwhelmed

Hi!

Please take a deep breath. It looks like a shallow scratch which is either self-inflicted or from a misjudged back foot swipe.
Just disinfect with some homemade saline solution and keep an eye on it whether the area around it is starting to lose hair in the coming days. In this case, you are likely dealing with either mange mites or a fungal skin infection, which can both be got over with the correct treatment after a diagnosis. If the wound is staying like this, then it was just a minor incident and is seen as such by your piggies. ;)
Right now, all you can do is keep an eye on it for the next 3 days. Don't do more after the initial disinfection as it will scab over and heal fast. In the case of a skin problem, the less you do in terms of home DIY treatment on spec, the more grateful your vet will be - it is much easier for them to diagnose if the crime scene has not been wiped clean and they have to resort to guessing and cursing.

You can find the recipe for saline in our first aid kit: First Aid Kit: Easily available non-medication support products for an emergency
