Hello.

I got a male neutered guinea pig - Ernie - about a month ago. Last weekend I got a 8 week old female to be his friend - Babe.

Since I got Babe, Ernie has been circling her and walking around purring, shaking his hips and squeaking. She follows him usually when he does this.

At first I thought he was just trying to get friendly with her but it's nearly a week later and he's still doing it almost constantly.

he does this out of the cage too and she follows him for a bit and then runs away popcorning.

Is this normal and will it happen forever?

Ernie is just in love with Babe. It will take a little while for him to settle down and not circle her every time. It's all still fresh and new for him and her as well.

No, it won't happen forever and it is quite normal!

Oh good. I hoped that was the case. To be honest, Babe seems completely smitten too. They love chasing each other around the sitting room and sometimes it looks like they're playing hide and seek!

That's so cute! You've done so well to choose Ernie such a cutiepie that he would be smitten from the word go! Such a lovely story. x

Yeap, although a boar is neutered, especially if young and agile, he doesn't seem to think he is when first introduced to a sow! :)

Shaun started off chasing Panda and Princess, popcorning in between and it lasted over a week. This has now resorted to purring and realising that he isn't the boss, but he still gives it a try from time to time.

So pleased that Ernie has found love with Babe ... it is a joy to watch when they are so happy together.
