My friend just got some guinea pigs from pets at home, but they were supposed to sell them as both females, turns out one of them is male. Do pets at home take responsibility for this and do they have to pay for the neutering?

what a pickle. This is one of the reasons why we don’t recommend purchasing from pet shops. Mis sexing is far too common.
Is the sow pregnant? Has the boar been separated from the sow?
Pet shops will usually pick up costs for pregnancy care and extra cages and costs as a result of unplanned pregnancy. They will sometimes but not always pay for neutering costs. And the law is not helpful here as you have to rely on the sale of good act (sadly piggies are treated as “goods” ). They are obliged to help with additional costs s a result of their missexing. However There is no obligation to pay for neutering the boar (as he can live separately from the sow with his bits intact and therefore it’s a matter of choice rather than necessity).
Please let us know how you get on.
