Please help! i'm in the process of introducing my little lady alice to her new hubby dermot and its not going too well!
They seem ok in the box but as soon as i put them in the cage its teeth chattering and lunging. :(
Has anyone got any suggestions? :'(

i'd try them with some more floor time under strict supervision for a while then try again with the cage. I always used to put my boars in first then add the sow the next day. I think it's just trial and error with the bondings. Good luck O0

Thank you! I'm just a bit worried because i introduced the first pair this morning without a hitch! They are now happily settled in the cage with no problem at all. Alice is such a grumpy bum, i really hope she will learn to accept him. :(

also i have to leave in a little while, i dont want to leave them together while i'm not here, shall i put their cages next to each other so they can smell each other but cant get at each other? do you think this would help or hinder the situation?

Are they in a fresh cage, or did the cage belong to one of them before,
I think other have said start with a fresh cage, and two of everything.
I don't know if seperating them to side by side will help or hinder, hopefully someone else will be able to help.
Good luck. O0

Yeah! I have always started introductions by putting the cages side by side and they talk to each other - it is so sweet :smitten: Good luck and well done for all the effort and thought you're putting into this, I am sure it'll be worth it when they do bond!

I was only thinking about the boys on Monday and wondered how things were.

Glad Sean has settled down with his new wife. Trust Dermot to be causing you probs.

I have read on here about bathing them so they smell the same - it might work. Just give it time. When I attempt bonding I put cages side by side so they start to get used to each other. I am sure they will be in love very soon.

Piccies please, I do miss these boys.

Oh grommit I'm so sorry its going bad for you. I got Murphy my neutered boar his new wife last night and things are going so well.

I scrubbed out Murphys cage and rubbed a bit of his bedding on her so she smelt the same as him and i introduced her to him in the kitchen.

I gave them plenty of food to eat. I left the cage door open so that they could get in and out.

Sorry i cant suggest anything else I'm sure she will get used to him.

Lindsay

They are in the boys cage which i have thoroughly disinfected and are on brand new vetbed so it wont smell of either of them.
They are chattering a little less now but dermot wont leave alice alone, he's mounting her lots.
she seems to be backing down to him a little but seems very frightened. i'm going to give them a few hrs with the cages side by side and try them together again later as i have to go out at 1.00.
Thanks for all the advice. I hope if we give them some time they'll come around. Poor little alice just is'nt used to sharing anything other than with me, i thinks she actually thinks she's human!

Thats exactly how Murphy got he is so tame and watched tele with us and can even open doors like cats do. Now we are well and truly dumped he never came into the lounge all night last night he was far to busy entertaining Romey. :smitten:

he he he! thats so cute! glad your little couple are getting on. i've just seperated them and dermot is going crazy! he's running about the cage wheeking really loud and looking for alice. alice is completely ignoring him! ?

Yep I would house them side by side for a while then playtime together for a while then try again O0

good luck, I'm sure you will get there in the end O0 and it will all be worthwhile :)

Thank you. I hope so. Dermot seems willing so the balls in Alices court. Just hope she's feeling festive! :)

Is she much smaller than him? If she is, I find putting something she can fit into but he can't works well. Like a cardboard box with a door cut out of it. If she can get away from his mounting now and then to have a break she might not be so scared.

she's huge! lol!
Dermot is about the same size as her, she might even be a little larger! I'm going to give them another try in a while when my OH gets home so i have a little back up.

I've just taken some piccies of the other happy couple. They're so cute! Sean is doing a little rumbling and trying to mount wendy but she's being so understanding. Not a single tooth chatter. she's one happy lady! :)
Wendy was the reason we got the boys because she seemed really lonely so i'm really pleased that one has gone well. :)
piccies to follow soon.

still no luck with dermot and alice. alice has just pulled some fur out of poor derm because he's constantly trying to mount her. Dont know what to do now. Should i keep trying them in the box together or give them some time alone to settle before i try them again?

i would give them they're own space, i think thats important so they can chill out for a while :)

At the mo they are in the kitchen, they have lots of food and a comfy towel to lie on, completely neutral territory and they seem a little more settled. I think it will probably be a long process but they seem to be a little more accepting of each other now so fingers crossed they'll be co-habiting soon. :)

Great photos - they have such sweet little faces.

Keeping fingers crossed for Dermot and Alice.

Update!

Dermot and Alice flopped down resting happily in the same cage!
WOOOO HOOOO!
Dont want to disturb them at the mo but piccies to follow soon.
Wendy and Sean fine too, they were both chomping away together at the hay rack when i went to check on them! :smitten:

Great news O0 Been thinking about them so pleased it seems to be working. :smitten:

Ta! i'm so pleased with how well its gone. Sean is already more trusting of us now too with Wendy showing him were not as scary as he thought! Alice and Dermot are very settled now it really couldnt have turned out any better. ;D
