hi i have built a two tier c&c cage but my piggies wont use the ladder they are always up on top or if i put them in the bottom they wont come up the ladder even at feeding time and i have to lift them up
I don't have a lot of floor space for them which is why i wanted two levels
does anyone know of any solutions that could help and if i raised the ladder of the ground would they climb onto it
thanks

Sometimes it just takes some time for them to get used to things. They're often very wary of what they do not know, others it takes no time at all. Just give them time and make sure that it's not too steep, maybe a photo of it would help us advise you better.

I dont have a C&C but on my double hutch I'm going to make a tunnel out of fleece or buy one of someone's website that ive seen. Might make them feel more secure

Piggies arent good with steep inclines, this could be a reason, what lining do you have on it? As suggested maybe a photo would help.

Hiya,

Ladders are a bit tricky for piggies (little legs and fat bottoms!) - a gently sloping ramp might work better for them? One which is solid, rather than with rungs.
If you have a look around this site you should be able to see plenty of similar ramps, as long as they are secure & your piggies can't fall off from a height.

Hope thats helps x

hi thanks for the replys i have been trying to upload photos but cant figure out how to do this i was going to try and make a tunnel for the ladder with fleece so it feels like the rest of the cage but was wondering what to put under fleece as i think the ladder i have is to small as it is quite steep

Do you have a photobucket account, if so upload the photos to there and then it will give yo ua direct link. Just go to post that, click on the yellow icon with the mountain and the sun type thing in a square? Insert the link into that :)

If the ladder is steep I don't think they'll take to it to be honest. xx

hi i dont have a photobucket account but will look into in and also have a look at other peoples cages

I don't know if this picture of mine will help at all. We have bent 2 grids and connected them together with cable ties. We made a hole in the top level for the ramp to sit in and cable tied it to the top and to the sides. We then just cut a strip of correx and folded it to make sides as well. Then we lay a towel (folded) and the correx onto the bent grids and use 2 bulldog clips at the top to attach it all together. It took us a while to get the steepness right but now they rush up and down it like mad things :))

As we had it a bit steep at first, we have a folded towel at the bottom to prop up the end and make it a bit of a gentler incline!

Hi
I had the same problem, and bought a tunnel which I attached to the ladder with velcro strips. I got the tunnel made with velcro strips so many inches apart and then staple gunned the corresponding velcro strips to the ladder to attach it. The piggies are fine using the tunnel now, they whizz up and down it. Just one downside, wood shavings & hay can become 'attached' to the velcro on the ladder causing it to lose its grip a bit. But it works perfectly for their winter indoor cage as it's all fleece. Piggies love tunnels and they can't resist going into one! Hope it works for you.

Thanks for all the replays I have made a tunnel which I am going to line with fleece got the bottom of cage sorted now going to work on the opening will take pics when finished

Course I don't mind! They do bend pretty easily although I got my OH to do it - probably unnecessary but we do like to make them feel useful :))

He clamped it in his workbench thing (half way down) then just bent it but I've read on here about people doing it using the stairs x

the c&c Grids bend quite easy you just have to watch where you bend them mine have a bit on side where i can see the join if i bend it there they snap but if i use the other side it bends how i want it bent 2 for top tunnel to make it shaped and covered the bottom with carpet then fleece inside and out. i also had to make a little ledge to join the tunnels together which i used a bent c&c grid for

Thanks you both, I'm extending my C&C this weekend when my grids arrive so wanted to do them an upper level too.
