Hi! I woke up really early to my guinea pig making odd squeaks. Almost like very congested deep groans. I fed him a little bit and gave him some water and he started sounding normal again. I went back to bed (i have school in a couplr of hours) and he kept squeaking so i let him run around my room (ive done this before. My door is shut and he enjoys running around my room.)

When i woke up, he came back out from under my bed with brown stuff leaking out of his mouth. Its almost like a muddy water. I cleaned it off and it seemed to of go away but i read online they couldnt throw up.I'm a new guinea pig owner and I'm not sure what to do.

Hes eating normal, drinking some water, and squeaking again like normal. I'm not sure if I'm over reacting or what. Any help will be helpful!

Hi

Please keep a close eye on him and see a vet if he is drooling some more. It could be that something was stuck or has gone down the wrong way that is now brought up again from the throat or the bronchia if he is eating and drinking normally again on his own.

Rodents don't have a vomit reflex but that doesn't cover the back of the throat, the upper throat and what does go down into the respiratory tract. Any constant salivating (in your case mixed with some feed) is usually a sign of your piggy being either unable to swallow or there being a blockage somewhere in the digestive tract between the back of the mouth to the anus.

In your case it was hopefully just a one-off scares.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I hope he’s ok now.
