My eldest guinea pig (1 and a half years old, male) is loosing weight, he's lost approx 60g since the 10th of this month, he's never lost like this before and is not gaining anything. He's eating and drinking and behaving normally but I'm terrified there is somthing wrong. I have spoken to a vet and am having him seen tomorrow but just wanted to see if anyone had been through somthing similar or has any idea what could be going on. I know no one here can diagnose but just some support or guidance would be much appreciated!

Take a deep breath! Pigs can easily fluctuate 30-40grams simply by having a big pee/before-after dinner etc. 60g is not disastrous.

It would be helpful to know what his current weight is (eg 60g of a pig which weights 800 gram is different than a pig weighing 1200gram) and a pattern over the months or whenever you weighted then before.

Pigs losing weight is needle in a haystack if that’s the only symptom, you’re doing the right thing to go for a check up. Particularly advisable to have teeth checked as that’s usually forgotten by lesser cavy savy vets.

Hugs, well done you for keeping a close eye on your piggle

Thankyou! He's a large pig he was 1661g on the 10th, down to 1653 the week after, then 1635g on Sunday then yesterday he was 1626g and today is 1608g. I love my piggies so much and am maybe a little paranoid

Oh my goodness what a heavy boy! I don't think I've ever come across a piggy so large. It's good you have a vet appointment to check because gradual weight loss over some time does need investigation.

I know! I adopted him last August, he was a year old exactly at the time, and already 1500! He has been for heath checks over the weight being so high and I've been told not to worry, he's always been in good shape. I spoke to my local emergency vet tonight since I worried about him being down to 1608g and they've said see how he is over night and have him seen tomorrow, I know its not a huge loss, it's just worried me that he's lost consistently

My sow goes between about 9

Can we see a picture. Thats biiigggg!

Wow definitely a big boy! My past alpaca boy Sheepy was big (1300g at his heaviest) but that's definitely the biggest piggy I've heard of too!

He’s a stunner.
Don’t panic.
It’s good that you’re seeing a vet and hopefully it will prove to be nothing to worry about .
Holding you in my thoughts for tomorrow.
Let us know how things go

My little boy Dennis is tiny compared to your big bruiser! Dennis has lost 70g over the last few weeks but he is only a tiny thing anyway and last weighed in at 927g on Friday. The lowest he has been for a year. I'm taking Dennis to the vet tomorrow too. Good luck at the vet.

Good luck to you too! Hopefully Dennis and my Eddard are all okay! I always worry so much going to the vet but it's the best thing

Sorry to hear about Dennis.
Hope everything is ok

What a big boy!:love: The biggest piggy I had was my teddy Bunny. She reached 1500g+ when she was still alive. I currently have a 10 month old, Sierra, and she already weighs 1280g. She just can't stop eating everything! My hubby nicknamed her Dyson! 😂😂😂 When our vet saw her last week, he said Sierra is a proper chunk of mass. 🙈🙈

UPDATE: we saw a vet who checked his eyes, teeth, stomach, breathing, heart beat and all the other essentials and there's nothing to be worried about :D he's all good, if anything maybe a tiny bit chunky but not having any health problems
