I have a boar that is around a year or so old and then we got a 6 week old boar. I had them in two cages next to each other for awhile and let them have play time and eat veggies together. When I finally moved them in together they both kept popcorning and seemed happy. Now anytime I come around the little one runs and hides and the big one rumbles and wags his hips. I think he is doing it at me. If I leave they are fine. Is this just him protecting his friend? Kind of the fatherly role? They seem happy together. If I take one out for lap time the baby crys and the big one trys to find him. I noticed the big one rumbles at doors and a fan we have just sitting there. Is this because he can see well and feels likes it big? With all this change as the little one gets older? Thanks for your help. They have never chattered teeth or anything I thought was really bad.

I had exactly the same situation. I might not be an expert but when I eventually got my two boars together they were fine for few months then started fighting which was my fault as I did not provide them with enough space. So that's the main thing if you want them to get along. It will also take them time to get used to changes. But that's just me :) someone might help * a bit more. Sometimes I wish they could talk for at least 5 minutes so we could communicate better and give them what they want :):)

Rumblestrutting (rumbling and wiggling the bum) is mild dominance bahaviour; you will probably see it daily. He sounds rather protective of the little, which is actually quite sweet! The rumbling should go down a bit more once your boys reach adulthood and the hormones stabilise; your boy is obviously very keen at telling the world what a gorgeous matcho boy he is! :)

What you can do is establish your dominance when you are cuddling your bigger boy; fondle his ears gently. In guinea pig language that translates into "I invite you as a member of the herd I'm running".

PS: Try to lure the little one out with a little veg or herb treat and praise and encourage him lavishly; he should catch on soon! ;)
