My Guinean pig Luna has been very off as of yesterday. She hasn’t come out, she stays in her bed and I don’t know if she’s eaten or drank anything. I fed her a few pieces of hay but she wouldn’t eat the pellets or lettuce. She’s breathing heavily to where you she see her stomach area move. She has crust around her eyes but the vet said that’s normal. She said it’s fluid for cleaning their eyes. Do I need to take her to the hospital? It isn’t like her to stay in her bed all day!

Right now she’s drinking so that’s good right?

I am very sorry.

Please have her seen promptly. Heaving breathing from the diaphragma, lethargy and loss of appetite are all red alert emergency symptoms.
As long as she is still eating or drinking on her own, there is still hope if you can get her to the vets in time.

Please take the time to read this link here. We have collected all the relevant information for emergencies and practical care advice in there, including on what you can do if your guinea pig goes into organ failure before you can reach a vet: Emergency, Crisis and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

I’m taking her to an emergency vet today hopefully cause everything is closed today. If I can’t do it today I’ll do it tomorrow first thing.

All the best and fingers firmly crossed!

Please follow the advice in the bridging care guide, especially re. feeding.

These things have a bad habit of happening at the most inconvenient of times... :(

The vet is wrong, if the fluid has gone crusty, the guine apig is not using it to clean their eyes. This sounds like a uri or pneumonia to me, especially when you say about the abdominal breathing. Been there before with a previous boar of mine. The faster you get the right antibiotics the better

Please let us know how you get on at the vets, sending healing vibes!

If possible, get her taken to an exotic vet too in case you aren’t doing that already. Good luck!

Everywhere is closed right now. I have to take her tomorrow it looks like she has pneumonia..I'll take her first thing.

I am so very sorry to hear this.
Take care of yourself and allow yourself time to grieve.
You did everything you could for Luna
