So, I’m going on a month long vacation to Europe, and I’ve found someone to watch my pigs. BIG PROBLEM. They have a small dog, so they will put the cage up high so the dog won’t get to them. The problem is that I have to put them in a smaller than usual cage. Last time I put them in a smaller cage for a week, they fought to the point where one of my pigs was bleeding. But when I put them in their regular cage, all was fine. I’m really nervous about what I should do. I don’t want them to fight will I’m gone! PLEASE HELP!

I only see one way out. And that is have the cage be big enough. Theres no other way unless you split them. But that will ruin the bond and is unfair.

Or find a proper guinea pig boarders ( which goes back to my first line, the cage will be big enough)

A little more information would be helpful.

Where are you based?
What guinea pigs do you have (number, sex and ages).
What size cage are they currently in, and what would they be downgraded to?

Maybe if we have more details we can offer more constructive advice.

In the first instance would it be possible for them to remain in their current cage in a room with a closed door in your pet sitters house?

There isn’t a possible way to make the cage bigger, unless it’s gone on the ground  In that case, the dog will get to it.

Then sorry to be blunt, but you need to find an alternative.
A situation that guarantees your guinea pigs will fall out is not really a solution.

If you answer the other questions about your area, the pigs you have etc. people will be able to offer better advise.

1.) Not sure what you mean by that
2.)I have 2 pigs, both females, both about a year and 4 months old
3.)They’re currently in an 8sq foot cage, they will down grade to a 4.5 sq feet cage
4.)No, as the dog is tiny and can slip through their feet while they go to feed them.

What do you mean by guarantees my pigs will fall out? They’re just going to be put on a higher level?!

I was asking what country you live in, and roughly what part of the country.
This will help people to give advice on local pet boarding facilities and pet sitters for you to consider.

Even if the dog is tiny they could put a meshed baby gate across a bedroom door, or restrain the dog for the 10 minutes it will take to go and feed the guinea pigs.

What do you feel your current options are?

I’m in America (sorry not the UK) and I’m in the midwest region. I suppose I could ask them, I’ll have to see how it turns out. ( the struggles of social awkwardness )

You said they need to be in a smaller cage, and the last time they were in a smaller cage they fought until one of them bled - this is falling out (or the breakdown of a relationship).
It is not fair to do this to your guinea pigs.
The cage you have pictured is far too small for them for a month.
You really need to find an alternative solution.
The person offering to look after them can clearly not provide an adequate environment, so you need to look for another solution.

This is the size of the cage
Wow! That's very small if I'm not mistaken. I only use something like that when travelling to the specialist vet which is around 4hrs away from me. If I'm bringing all my 3 piggies, I put them in Ferplast 100 in the car. That's even bigger than that container you posted. I would not put 2 piggies in that storage box for a month. You need to have a plan B and find a suitable boarding for them.

She means if you put the cage on a higher level, you have to use the cage that isnt big enough. Therefor a fall out is likely to happen again, which is what you are worried about. Is it not? 👍

Would it be possible for them to be left in your home and have the pet sitter come by to feed and change etc?

BIG MIX UP GUYS
I took put the wrong bin ( pictured )
and the new one is 7.5 sq feet so it’s all good guys
