It's been a while since I've had a guinea pig, but I just got a new one yesterday, and I can't remember how my old one acted, so I've no idea whether this one is normal or not (if that makes sense).

All he seems to do is hide, and he won't eat his pellets - just whatever vegetable or fruit I put in. I don't think he's drinking much either, as I've not heard the bottle being drank from. Is there anything I can do to get him to eat and drink?

First off, hello and welcome :) :) to you and the piggie :smitten:
Now relax, of course it's strange for your piggie, everything will be different from what they were used to... it will take time and patience.
Give lots of fresh hay, water and veggies for piggie to nibble on, you'll probably find the piggie (name?) will come out when you're not around at first.
After a couple of days i'd try a little playtime with you on the ground you with treats and just sit quietly and talk quietly and let the piggie come to you and learn that you are the mummy with the yummy food O0
There's lots of threads on here that will help you, and just ask any questions there's always somebody on to help O0
Enjoy yourself, and look forward to hearing more about you and the piggie :smitten: :smitten:

Thankyou very much ^^ His name is Stewy (he looked like a Stewy, methinks) hehe.

I try to leave him alone, but he's in my room at the minute (I'm 17, and I also have house rabbits, so I can't keep him downstairs, or the rabbits will be a bit upset) so I'm I'm around most of the time. Also, whenever my boyfriend is here (as Stewy was a present from him) he is constantly playing with him. I don't know whether that'll be good for Stewy, or will that just make him more scared? He's so jumpy all the time...

Stewy :smitten: :smitten: great name O0
No, playing or socialising with them is great for them, remember too little treats with you each time you pick up or go near the cage and Stewy will learn quickly to come out when he hears you cause he'll know you've got yummies with you :smitten:
Remember too to wash your hands before and after handling him and the buns, don't want to upset them or pass anything on O0

We actually tried that, but he won't eat them. He'll only eat parsley, and nothing else. He nibbled at a bit of apple skin when I wasn't looking, but not very much.

I don't often handle the rabbits, as they're too energetic to be handled really haha. They're too busy binkying around. And when they're not doing that.. they're sleeping...

Hiya and welcome
Don't worry, I have had my two boys for 6 weeks and one is still quite timid.
Time, patience and lots of food treats will work.
Good luck

hello, my guinea pigs took a while to get used to their surroundings and didnt eat much at first, he will be fine after more time. has he got places to hide i.e boxes? if so try putting some veg in there, he may feel more secure eating whilst hes hiden. good luck and keep us posted :)

I have made him a box to hide in, but I don't think he's realised it's there, yet haha. I'll be buying him a proper one from the petshop, next time I'm in the area (the only petshop around is half an hour away), but I'll make him a bigger one before then. He's been eating his vegetables - slowly, but surely - and he's nearly eaten from my hand, but then decided not to. Thankyou for all your help (:

Welcome.

He sounds a love. Can't wait for pigtures.

Just take it gently and the trust will build up until you are great friends.

When I got my first pair I was quite worried that they didn't seem to eat or drink too much, but it just took them a while to settle down - about a week I think.
Are you feeding him the same dry food he was having before? If its changed then that may be putting him off and it would be better to gradually mix in any new food.
