I just noticed this on my guinea pigs foot I got yesterday. What is it? is it contagious? to humans, pigs, both? Need to know asap. Begging, please help!AF97CB19-5227-481C-BB56-F5C5C4A01758.webpEFE95978-7127-4DAE-BF2E-0C78FDF340E0.webp0ECFAB0A-FDB3-4152-B0D7-73D48D6ECC83.webp13E0AC8E-2CDC-4481-ADFA-395E92CE3F69.webp

I can't really see to what you are referring. Can we have a clearer picture please? One where your piggy is stood on something plain may help.

Is it holding it’s paw up or is the paw folded under and injured or broken? It is hard to see

I had to run out of the house for a track meeting, but i’ll be home in like an hour and i’ll take a clearer picture. He wasn’t just holding it back though, because he was hopping and running around the cage with that foot up the entire time. The foot is almost backwards too. I’m trying to decide if it’s a birth defect or a bone broken but healed wrong before I bought him

He doesn’t seem to be in any pain. He’s eating and drinking and running around, so maybe it’s a birth defect?

Looks like a birth defect from what i can see, did you not notice when you got the pig? Get to a vet and have this checked asap

I tried to get some pictures but he was really curious and wouldn’t hold still. He’s what I could get.9E60A321-1011-49DC-B30F-0CE87C5EC823.webpF37564A3-10C7-4EA9-9B45-77862DBB4122.webpA90CF8F9-979F-45A3-B92D-E6332817124D.webpD33CF7F6-E20A-4442-BCE4-1F3E71939527.webp7550AC84-D271-421C-A1F7-CEB093473D3A.webpED3623AF-4952-45D5-9F5D-E9952FD7B679.webp15181A2C-13AE-4B4C-872C-525C6B557FAE.webpA13DCBE9-14D4-49B8-B500-789EEBA56263.webp9C92B583-1EF6-4775-9FFE-9B3307133FCB.webp

I thought birth defect as well. The foot looks like it’s pointing inwards and bent at the joint. But also like the toes didn’t develop properly...was he like this when you got him? Perhaps take him to the vet just to be checked over.

It’s good if he doesn’t appear to be in any pain and is managing to get around.

On another note, does he share his cage with anyone else?

No he doesn’t. I got him yesterday, and i was waiting a couple days until I bond him with another one of my singles. But I’m going to wait now until I have this leg thing figured out.

Thank you those pictures are clearer. It does look like a birth defect and I am pleased that you are taking him to a vet. Let us know what you find out.

I agree it does look like a birth defect ,but what a lovely cute boy.

I hope he can live like it ok, i have a feeling over time, it will have an affect on the whole leg? I'm not sure, bless him☺. I do have more love for pigs like this if you know what i mean, they pull on the heart strings more.

My past ratty Tobey (well ToeBoy as they called him before I got him!) had his toe bitten off as a baby, made him extra special :)

Hope all goes well at the vets @Piggiesxoxo, he's a gorgeous little guy

So I went back to petsmart with my dad where I got him and they were so helpful as to do this: What they said was that I would technically “return” him, and they would completely pay for the price of veterinary care, and then we could have him back. They gave me a merchandise card with the exact amount of money needed to buy him. The vet will look at him sometime this week and call me with the update! So i got him into the vet free of cost, so I say it’s a win. I’ll just miss the little dude until then.

😳 I hope you really do get him back. Was there any way you could have taken him to the vet then gone back and claimed the fees? And I don’t know why the vet couldn’t have looked at him sometime during the day. Fingers crossed but I hope they don’t suggest putting him down!

It’s great that they are footing the vets bill but PLEASE go and get your piggy back TODAY. I’m afraid I don’t know much about this policy as I’m not in the US but I have heard it happening to other members before and there was one case where the piggy was accidentally sold to someone else :( although I understand this is probably rare. I’m sorry as I don’t want to scare you.

I could be wrong and apologise if I am but I think @Wiebke understands more about it (sorry if you don’t Wiebke and I’m getting you mixed up with someone else)

That's good news, not sure what they can do. But you sound such a caring person, he his such a beautiful boy so cute. Fingers crossed all goes well with the vets.
