Hello,
my guinea pig has just taken afew bites out of my spider plant that was sat on my desk and when i looked it up it said it was toxic/poisinous i dont know what to do
is it really poisinous?
what should i do?
please help !
thankyou
btw she is a 1 nearly 2 year old female guinea pig thx

Please try not to worry.
Chances are she will be absolutely fine - guinea pigs do have a habit of nibbling things that they shouldn't.
Just keep an eye on her for 24 hours.

And if it was a spider plant I would not be worried at all - here they sell them in pet shops to use in small pet cages, so I don't think they would be toxic to guinea pigs at all.

Hi

Please take a deep breath. Just a few bites won't kill your piggy. Spider plants are not recommended around guinea pigs but they are not so highly toxic that just a little of them would prove fatal.

I would however recommend to either find another location for your plant or to no longer allow your piggy onto the desk. Piggies have a very finely tuned sense for finding the places and things quickly that you would like them to get to least... Most house plants are on the no no list for guinea pigs so they should be placed well out of reach at all times.

However, if you notice signs of her being suddenly unwell in the next 48 hours, please contact a vet/out-of-hours promptly.

Thankyou so much !
