Hi guys,
We're having a terrible time,
Scott my boyfriend came down with a terrible cold on Friday and he's given it to me too, we are both very poorly, and I'm worried about all the animals.

I know the rabbits are safe because they can't catch human colds but the pigs and hamsters are at risk if they get it,

How can I prepare food, water bottle and clean them out in this time without risking their health?.

I was doing it all before I got poorly but now we are both very very unwell,
I wash my hands throughly before preparing food and drink but what do I do about cleaning them out I don't want to breathe on them and spread It to them that way :/ :/

I know the flu and colds can last week's so I can't wait it out really,
Any advice?

I believe it is rare for colds to jump speices but good personal hygene and keeping contact to a minimum contact should be OK.

I had a cold recently and I just made sure to wash my hands thoroughly before preping food and tried not to breathe whilst in their room! I cleaned them out a bit less frequently to minimise time spent in the room too

I,m sorry to hear you are both unwell. that must be a nightmare.
If youv'e no-one else to help try tying a scarf round your face to try and keep the germs at bay.
I'm sure the piggies will cope with a once a day visit if you give them plenty of hay etc.
Cut down your cleaning to a minimum too to preserve your strength as the Cold will sap your remaining energy.
Used to work with horses on a deep litter regime so if possible you could leave their poo and pee for a couple of days?
I know that's hard but as long as they have dry areas on top they'll be fine! Deep litter means adding hay onto the top of existing bedding in case youv'e not heard of that! Hope you both feel a bit better soon. xx

Human Colds/flu And Tummy Bug Advice

I hope you both feel better soon

Phew!
I thought I'd read that human colds can be deadly to guineas so I'm glad that doesn't seem to be the case, but you don't want to risk anything just in case :/ :/

Yes us both being unwell is really bad :(
I'll try the scarf trick! That sounds like a good way to sort them out :)

I feel bad not spending time with them But it's always when you get sick you just want to cuddle with them! :( typical :)
Once a day feeds I think it will have to be :(

I’ve had a cold a couple of times in the year I’ve had the piggies and I just washed my hands thoroughly when preparing their meals and spot cleaning and handled them as little as possible. The spot cleaning took twice as long as normal because i kept getting a runny nose and had to run off to wash my hands from handling poo, blow my nose then wash my hands again. I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear that you are both poorly. The most important thing is to look after your own health. Maybe your mum can help out or is she keeping clear?!
Give my love to Donny and baby xx

Yes I've been asking mum to help me out by chopping some veg and filling up their water for me when she pops round and she's going to help me clean them out tomorrow!
She's a real help at the moment!

I think Donnie misses his fleece tunnel! He's taken to sleeping in the cardboard tunnel I've got them, I'm thinking of making him another fleece one :)

They seem very taken with each other! A real match made in heaven! :)
I'll get some photos when I'm better for everyone to see! :) :D
