Hi everyone,

New to the forum and have a few questions about bedding!

I bought lavender scented woodshavings from pets at home and was told this would be ok, however after reading up online i have found that i shouldn't be using this as bedding! Can anyone suggest an alternative? I was thinking about going and getting some 'carefresh animal bedding' today, until i can find a suitable alternative for the long run.

Any help would be great,
Thanks!

Hello, Welcome to the forum.

I would say no to anything scented.

Our trio of girls are bedded on dust free wood shavings, lots of people use carefresh but it can work out pricey.

How many piggies do you have?

Megazorb, aubiouse, fitch or finacard/ecobed/green mile are other options. If they are indoors a lot of people use fleece or vetbed with an absorbent layer such as towels or puppy pads underneath. If you have a look through the threads in this section there's loads about different beddings.

For each type of bedding there are some pros and cons. I've currently got fleece, I would've chosen non-scented woodshavings other than scented. There's al lot about Woodshavings and sawdust being bad for guinea pigs. There's also the option of carefresh, it's supposed to be good; but is liable to mites.

I have fleece but would favour vetbed over anything else. We have odd areas with it but as the pigs are free range can't afford to have it everywhere. You can put either newspaper or washable incontinence pads underneath.
