Having huge issues with my bores.
Today a bonded pair but don't like each other too much. We're out in the run for a few hrs in the garden whilst nice and sunny (not too hot) Tango bit Gerald just below his bumhole but into the fleshy bottom. Mark is about a cm wide. He's acting like he's in pain running around in a circle. I really can't see what a vet could do as it needs to heal from within. I gave him 0.25ml of pain relief which I had a few days ago for Tango. Tango was bit the other day by a different pair guinea pig whilst outside also. I'm never mixing them again now sadly but his Ear was torn in half by Lenny a dominant Abbersynina. Anyway has anyone else gone through something like this? I will apply some Antibacterial cream on him now too, just letting the pain meds kick in first. Sadly I need to get rid of one pair as I can't keep 2 seperate pairs anymore as I'll be seperating Tango and Gerald now.
I'm so upset about all this.

I’m sorry to hear this.

Any wound which is deep or bleeding/not stopping, does need a vet to check. Some wounds require stitches, some require antibiotics. All we can advise you to do, given we cannot see the wound, is to talk to a vet and keep the area clean, make sure you change bedding regularly so as to not risk infection in the area.

Sadly you can’t mix bonded pairs of boars as it will cause breakdowns in potentially all bonds, and as you mention, Gerald and Tango may also need to be separated as causing such a wound is usually bond breaking.
I'm sorry it’s not better news.

Hi

Please have the wound assessed by a vet in case it may need stitching and an antibiotic to prevent an abscess; especially if it is a deep wound.

Please be aware that piggies do NOT do play time. For them, every meeting is a full on bonding session. If you mix bondedpairs, you are lucky if you are not ending with single boars when the stress is coming down between an established pair. Never try to mix piggies on the lawn; it simply doesn't work.

Bite wounds happen either as a split second defence reflex when a stressed piggy feels cornered or reacts to a sudden movement or in the course of a full-on fight.
