Hi.
We have had our new pig since August. We got him at 1yr old from a rescue as a friend for our lone boar when his cage mate passed away.

Since having him hes never had a normal poop. At first we thought it was stress of new environment but when it didn’t settle we took him to the vet who tested samples and it came back he had an fungal infection that vet states is normally only seen with antibiotic over use.
(We informed the rescue as he was housed with others but quite frankly got a snotty reply)

He has had two courses of anti fungal along with fibreplex and ‘poop soup’ yet he still has diarrhoea!
Hes maintained his weight, drinks plenty and eats well. The other pig has been fine throughout this and there cage gets a daily clean.
I have spoke to vet again but they are running out of ideas?
Anyone had this problem?

I see you are in Northamptonshire. Which vets have you been taking him to? Simon and Kim Maddock at the Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic in Northampton are brilliant guinea pig vets. People travel from all over the UK to see them, with their guinea pigs. It might be worth getting an appointment there, unless that's where you have already been?

Yes thats where we go

A friend of mine has been having the same problem with their piggy. He’s found arrowroot powder has helped. I remember my mum used to give me arrowroot biscuits when I had diarrhoea and sickness, as a kid.

Also, many years ago Simon prescribed the antibiotic Metronidazole for a piggy I had with severe diarrhoea. It really helped! Maybe ask him about whether it would be worth trying it.
