Hi there,

I'm new to the forum & to piggys!

I have been absorbing as much info from this forum as poss (thanks!)

Originally i was going to buy one male guinea, but after reading up on companionship i am going to get 2!

Ordered the cage last night, looking at ideas of hideys etc and going to make some snuggle pouches too!

I was looking at the housing pictures and mostly everyone uses fleeces> just wondering where you get all the funky bright coloured ones from?

& also the set up >> newspapers/ then puppy pads or matress cover/then fleece?
& a hay loft up top.

Any tips and advice for a first time owner will be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Where are you getting your guinea pigs from? It would be great if you could rescue them as there are so many in need of homes.

I get my fleece from Primark. I have heard other people getting theirs from Ikea,Tesco and Ebay. I place a layer of towels down and then two layers of fleece. It is a good idea to get the fleece now as you have to prepare it. Wash and dry it three times not using fabric conditioner before you can use it as this makes it wick away the water.

I just put my hay on the floor as my piggies love to play in it too. You can do whatever you like.

Feel free to ask anything else.

I am going to buy fleece today, so i will have the house ready for them coming home! - thanks for those tips! wasnt sure how to prepare them!

Not sure where to get the piggys from, was looking in P@H as they have some to rescue too, not sure where else i would look to rescue one?

Great that you are considering rescue. If you tell us whereabouts you are, we may be able to recommend a local rescue. :)

Hello! The guinea pigs at P@H are for sale - even in the 'adoption' section. Just a different way of saying 'for sale' for pigs that may have previously been for sale....Allegedly...

Anyway, as said, a local rescue will have lots of bonded pairs of guinea pigs for you to see. If you are thinking of boars, it is really good to get a bonded pair ie they have formed a relationship / friendship already.
Maybe have a look at a rescue website to get the feel of the piggies available eg

There are some Scottish forum members who may know more if you could give an idea of the region of scotland?

Hope you can go and meet some soon.

Good luck for finding a lovely pair of boys!

Scottish rescues

I think it is in Argyll and they sound like they have many piggies available but I am sure they will give you more info if you email them?

Otherwise is there a SSPCA branch nearish you?

I am hoping a Scottish forum member will add some more info when they read later
