I moved Heisenberg and Darwin into a new hutch yesterday as the rain kept soaking the inside of their old one and the roof was starting to get a bit leaky. This one has an attach run so they can go out and eat as much grass as they want:) I was wondering I have to leave them alone without playing with them so they can get used to it, like you do when you first get guineas?

Lucky them a new house with a run. They must be thinking Christmas has come early :yahoo:

I do not believe that have to leave them alone now like when you first got them as it is just the new surroundings they need to get used to not you as they already know you and trust you

I would say it would be a good idea to touch things to put your scent on the area of much as you can so that it smells familiar to them. Perhaps give them so new chewy things or toys to keep them occupied for a bit of time.

It may take some time for them to adjust to moving house just like it does when us hoomans move house but the more you show them everything is safe and secure the more they will trust that it is.

Good luck and hope the move to the new house goes well for them :D

Okay thank you I will do all of that and yes they are very happy with their new house although they get a bit confused at feeding time as it took them a while to realise that the food was up in their house and not in the run hahaha

My piggies have had to adjust to several changes to their environment. They started in a two level, then a ramp down to a run was added (not set-up permanently). The cupboard the cage was on got removed and the cage got extended downwards to make a four-level home, with an attached run this time with access from the bottom level.
Then I had to split them up so they got two levels for each group.
Then I squoze a loft into the bottom half of the cage, making a three-level and a two level. They now have access to the run at different times to each other, via the ramp for the top pair, and the bottom for the bottom pair.
Sounds a bit complicated, but basically mine have had extensions and reductions and a few rearrangements and have all adjusted quickly, so after the initial caution and exploration yours should be just fine :) x
