Height of mini second level

Hi everyone,
I'm building a wood and plexiglass guinea pig cage and would like to add a mini second level so my one zoomie guinea pig can get some extra run space. I figured my guineas would like lying beneath the second level and may add a cut up fleece sheet. How high up should the second level be?

We have a small C&C loft that is one grid height (35cm/14 inches) high, which seems a good height for them being able to get up there and also use the space underneath. I think about 20cm/8 inches would be the minimum for them being happy to use the underneath space too?

Sorry Seven7, I'm putting together pieces left from previous projects! I know Lowe's has plexiglass, and I'm sure any hardware store has it as well

We also have a wood and plexiglass hutch. We have a narrow upper level that runs all the way along the back, with a ramp at each end. We use it as a hayloft. The loft was built 8 inches higher than the base, which reduces to 7 inches once there is bedding on the bottom layer. They like hiding under there, and it is still high enough to fit a couple of wooden hidey houses underneath. They also like to run around in circles, up the ramp, across the top, down the other ramp and round again
