Can anyone help?
We have been at the vets this evening with Hector, who has been limping, and not weight bearing on his right front paw.
The vet thinks it is possibly a sprain, she cant feel any break.
We have been given Loxicom for dogs(0.15ml), She said to administer once a day. After reading about others experiences, is this ok? Would it be better to do twice a day?
I did question it…. but she said once a day should be fine.

Poor Hector. What have you been up to? Hope you are soon on the mend. ❤️

Hi!

Sprains are not uncommon in guinea pigs and can happen anywhere along the leg from the shoulder/hip downward and not necessarily in the paw. You are not putting the full weight on your foot when you have sprained your knee or your ankle... ;)

If he can push back just a little when you gently push against the foot sole, then it is rather a sprain and should right itself over the coming days. A piggy with a break won't be able to push back and will be in major pain, which yourse obviously isn't. Because the front legs are weight bearing, the limping is always more noticeable.

You can either halve the dose and give it every 12 hours or give he full dose once a day - whatever you prefer.
All the best!

Thank you so much, for your advice. We have decided to go for one dose for now, and see how he gets on over the next couple of days.
He seems happy enough snuffling around in his hay.

Sounds rather like a sprain to me. Take a deep breath! :tu:

Thank you, Its a mystery! He was not impressed with the vet trip, especially as the previous 2 trips he was paw holder. Hamish on the other hand seemed excited to be home again, and have been paw holder for a change!
