My pigs live in a hutch in my back garden. The are in the most shaded place we could find ( we have a south facing garden so it makes it difficult) but I'm still nervous about the hot weather. I've got a two different types of ice packs wrapped in tissue or a cloth ( one is a bag of ice) in with them and I've made sure they have fresh water but is there anything else I can do?

Could you bring them indoors during the worst of the heat? My pigs are indoors but are currently outside in their run but we have a North facing garden so they’re in the shade and it’s cooler than in their room

I would say, if you can't bring them to somewhere cooler inside, make sure you keep a close eye on them in case the heat starts to get too much for them. If that happens, they'll have to be taken in to a cool place - I've heard of baths or showers being suggested as emergency accommodation, if your bathroom is a cool/coolable room.

Hi!

Please take the time to read our information links above. They contain all the detailed step-by-step advice for all possible measures you can take, including improvisation tips. There is so much you can do in terms of really simply but effective things that benefit not just your piggies but also you, too. ;)

Please bring your piggies indoors into the coolest room in the house during the hottest hours of thew in temperatures over 25 C. If necessary, the bath tub or shower floor will make an improvised run with the help of an old towel. You can also cool the floor by running cold water over it if necessary.
