Hi

I'm contemplating buying a heat pad and would appreciate feedback on some queries please:

1) Do they chew the covers? If so, can they harm themselves?

2) Are they just for outdoor piggies? Our hutch is indoors all year round, but the room is north facing with three external walls. There's plenty of bedding. It's covered at night with a fleece. It felt quite cold in there this morning though, so am concerned. Would having a heat pad indoors be too much?

Thank you

Bridget

I can’t recommend them enough! They are fantastic! Mine haven’t chewed the covers. They are outdoor and I have four heat pads between the two pigs. I know there are people on here with indoor piggies who also use them as it provides them with a nice warm area to sit directly on if they wish which is nice for them.

My piggies are indoors and I first tried a snugglesafe heatpad last weekend when it was frosty. The piggies were a bit confused by it but Jezebel floofy pants enjoyed snuggling it very much. Our piggy room and house generally is a bit drafty and I think they are a great idea. Nobody has chewed it. As long as the cage is big enough they can move away from it if they are too warm I think its fine!

Thank you. Love the name 'Jezebel Floofy Pants!' Yes, the hutch is huge as it's the biggest I could find for sale.

I have 5 outdoor piggies and they have a heat pad each. I use them when the temperature at night falls below 10 degrees. When it is really cold in the winter months they have them during the day too. If they get too warm they just jump off them.:)

Mine are indoor piggies but I wondered if I need heating pads for Finn and Lara.
I am in US and I have central heating and cooling system where temperature is constant 70 degrees Fahrenheit, or 21 degrees Celsius inside the house. Finn and Lara pretty much stay in constant temperature indoor.

Lara always uses her cuddle pouches where she goes inside the pouch and sleeps in there but Finn doesn't use cuddle pouches at all.

If it's a constant temperature at night too they're probably fine. Our heating isn't on at night and the temperature drops quite a lot. That's why I'm considering getting some. Bet the cuddle pouches are cute!

That's good to keep them warm in the day too :)

I will put up some photos of the cuddle pouches when I find them on my iPhone.

I see Lara's head poking out from inside her cuddle pouch all the time but Finn, a long haired boy, doesn't do this so I always wonder if I need to do something more for him. Lara always look cozy and comfy and I want the same for Finn.

I just stuff my pigs hideys with lots of meadow hay . I use heat pads for sick pigs. Mine are indoors.

If its frosty and below zero outdoors the indoor piggy room temperature might drop to 12 degrees overnight so that's when I first used the heatpad. I dont like leaving the heating on all night, the air gets very dry. I have lots of fleecy furniture too and lots of hay. The daytime temperature indoors is 15-18 degrees which is ok. I have the heating on half an hour at dinnertime 6-7pm then half an hour at bedtime 10-11pm and half an hour before getting up 5-6am. Usually works fine for us but the giant african snails get an electric heat mat!

Do you have to use the covers on these, or can they be tucked beneath bedding?

I agree. Couldn't stand the heating on overnight as I'd get too hot.

Extra hay might be a better bet. I like to keep things as natural as possible.
I'm the same. And i treat my gerbils the same. All wood and hay. Nothing wrong with hay, have you ever felt it when your guinea pig has come out of their hidey? Its roasting

I almost forgot about the cuddle pouch photos I promised.

I fed my Finn and Lara their breakfast, cilantro, lettuce, and celery. When I came back a few minutes later to top off their hay pan, their breakfast was all gone, and they put on the same face they had before they were given their breakfast. I sat there wondering how their breakfast can be gone so fast.

I have two of each of these cuddle pouches one for Finn and one for Lara, monkey pouch, kitten pouch and puppy pouch. These pouches can be rolled to create different sizes as demonstrated by the puppy pouches.

Because Finn doesn't use his cuddle pouches, I bought him noodle beds for winter. He has been using his noodle beds.

Thank you. I know the 'Food? What food? No, hasn't been any breakfast given here' look! It's more of a 'What do you mean the clocks have changed? Change them back! I want my breakfast/tea/random meal for no good reason now!' The UK clock change is not being appreciated here! I think mine would trash a cuddle pouch, but I bet your piggie looks very cute.

If you mean the snugglesafes, they have fleece covers. i tuck mine under their bendy wooden log huts under a pile of hay, that way it warms the surrounding hay as well
Thanks. I try not to use fleece because washing it releases microplastics, which worries me because they get into the ocean and cause problems. It's so difficult because I want to keep my little one warm. Maybe I can swap it for an improvised cotton cover.

It would have to be very thick because the heat from the pads is hot....as in, if I don’t get them in the covers within a couple of seconds they get far too hot to hold, need oven gloves hot! The fleece is rather thick on them so that it comes through them as a warmth rather than heat

That's useful to know. Thank you.
