Hi guys,

My pigs are kept indoors, however it's getting pretty cold at night/when we're out and the heating not on. I've ordered a head pad, but it's rock solid and they don't like it. Has any one used a heat lamp?

I have looked into using heat lamps - but they are expensive to run. After much research I opted for a chick brooder (electric hen/ heat plate) which you can buy in different sizes and adjust the high. My guinea pigs seem to love them and can often be found sitting under them. They are also much cheaper to run. My only concern is that they could chew the cable, so to prevent this I have used an old piece of hose pipe, cut length ways as a cable protector.

Mine have a Petnap aluminium heat pad. Yes, it's solid BUT it has a fleece cover and then I cover it with another fleece piddle pad. They are guarenteed to be laying on it - all four of them in a bundle! That's why I've just ordered another one. None of mine ever went anywhere near the microwave snugglesafes but the plus in heat pad is a firm favourite in the cold weather (they're in the kitchen/conservatory and it only has one radiator so the room gets cold overnight).
