I need advice- I hope somebody can help me?

My beloved piggie, Cheeky, has started to show symptoms of heart problems. His breathing has become odd (sort of a wheezing sound), he is losing weight fast as he is not eating as much as normally and his heart seems to be beating really, really hard inside his tiny body. He was taken to the vet and had his heart/lungs checked and he had an x-ray taken as well. All seemed Ok. He was sent home with pain medication and antibiotics as the vet thought maybe he was suffering from a lung infections/mild pneumonia.

The meds didn't help.

I went back to the vet again today (saw a different one this time) who suspect that Cheeky has heart problems. However, the vet doesn't have an awful lot of experience with guinea pigs and heart medication- but decided to try Benazepril. The information that the vet had is that Cheeky should only get 0.1 mg/day - which is a tiiiiny dose- but the vet told me that he was a little unsure if the dose was correct and said that if I knew anywhere to ask for advice/more information, then I should feel free to do so.

Does anyone here knows if the dose is correct? Cheeky weights 1.1 kg.

I hope someone has experience with this and can help out with advice- thank you in advance - I am so worried about my beloved piggie <3

Sorry to hear your boy is unwell. Hopefully you will get the answers you need. Are there any other vets in the country that your vet to consult with?

@Claire W Thank you. Piggie is eating, but he seems very tired and his breathing seems off, I'm super worried ;___; @Siikibam Thank you, I may end up contacting a animal hospital in Copenhagen asking them for advice ;___;

I hope the animal hospital can give you some answers. I know that some people with heart pigs sometimes give a medication beginning with V but I’m afraid I don’t know what it’s called

@Siikibam Adding the ‘skal du have’ makes the 'Tak' seem slightly more personal/friendly- but you're perfectly fine just using 'Tak' or 'Mange Tak' :)

@Claire W Thank you. Looks like I will have to reach out to other vets to see if they can help me with advice.

How was Cheeky over the weekend? Hopefully you’ll get some advice from another vet. Call your usual vet first, they may know others they can consult with. All the best.

@Siikibam Thank you for asking about Cheeky, that's very kind of you. He is a lot better, his breathing is better (no wheezing sound) and he has a lot more energy and is interested in food again. I'm hoping it's the medicine working *fingers crossed*
