Hi All,

I have been chatting with a very good friend of mine who has mentioned something 'new' that appears to be doing the rounds - I'm not trying to alarm or worry anyone, more see if anyone else has had this or thinks this could be the 'unexplained' reason for their pigs sudden departure recently.

There have been at least half a dozen cases(at the time of talking Monday) up and down the country of pigs going off their food, they are put straight onto daktarin and a/b's for sore mouths etc but this is having no effect and they are dying very fast.

Piggy presents as not being keen on their food, then refuses it altogether. On examination of the mouth, ulcerated and necrotic tissue is found either at the back corners of the mouth or along the jawline. Piggy deteriorates rapidly refusing all foods. Syringe feeding so far has not proved successful as the piggy loses the swallow reflex.

Has anyone else experienced this at all, heard anything?

I had heard the basics from Wendi's newsletter Beks, but haven't heard of anyone here yet having it thank goodness. I may contact the local RSPCA small animal place up the road where we got Dylan and GBH Rescues to see if they have seen anything similar. They are both here in Kent.

There is a stickied thread (in general chat I think) started by Tommies mam about this. Any new or relevant information can be added to this thread.
Thanks for putting it up and if you hear any more please add it to the stickied thread :)

i havent heard anything, i checked my piggy last night when i was doing his grooming. I always check his teeth and mouth, about twice a week.

Thanks for this, i shall definitely keeping an eye out for this.

there seems to be alot of things going around revolving around the mouth area? could there be something they eat that is causing this generally?

Sorry I wasn't aware a thread had already been started, please feel free to close this then or perhaps move my information over to it :)
