Health check

Do you guys take the penis out when you do the weekly health check?

Health checks are not really common in the states and I was asking my vet if I should take the penis out and she said no and just to look if there is a discharge on the foreskin.

If the answer is yes, how do I get it out?

Umm, yes, err hum...
I've poked around and not done a Saskia (LA Guinea Pig Rescue) who is an absolute expert. But when Polo had a bit of redness in that area it came out and I washed off some dry crusty stuff. The redness seems to be gone now thank goodness. I thought he was wearing less, but seems OK now. If all seems normal perhaps it's fine to leave it, not sure

No, you should not need to express the penis every time.
Just clean it if needed

I just look at the exposed bit usually. If things seem to look a bit grubby I express. I've only done it a couple of times and used water based lubricant for his comfort. If I had found anything that didn't come off easily I would have had a vet do it. I would rather pay than be pulling and prodding at delicate, easily damaged bits of my boys.
