Hello everyone,

I’m needing some healing vibes for Bertie please! He's got a vet appointment at 3:30 today. He’s been off his food a bit since last week, which I put down to the heatwave. His poops were too soft as well, so I took him off his fresh veg and his poops returned to normal-ish on Friday. But over the weekend his appetite hasn’t picked back up, in fact, it’s got worse. He’s ignoring even his most favourite veg which really isn’t like him. I’ve stepped up with hand feeding, and his weight is stable, but due to his age (over 5 and a half now), and with all his brothers passing within a few months of each other, I’m fearing the worst. So some healing vibes for Bertie please! Fingers crossed the vets can get to the bottom of this.

I’m so sorry your boy is giving you a fright. All the best for today and I hope it’s something simple. Hugs.

We’re back from the vets and they think it might be dental as he’s got uneven wearing of his two front teeth. Everything else seems in order and he’s in good shape. So he’s in booked in for an X-ray with dental (if it’s dental) for Wednesday. Fingers crossed still!

Update on Bertie: he had his X-ray and it showed it wasn’t his teeth, it was an ear infection that was causing him pain when he was chewing. So he’s on antibiotics. We’re starting on Baytril, but if there’s no effect on his eating in the next few days he’ll have to go on a stronger antibiotic.

Hi everyone, sad news from Bertie. The antibiotics weren’t making a difference and his appetite got worse. I rang the vets on Saturday and got an additional antibiotic (metronidazole) prescribed. He seemed to react badly to that, as his poops went from normal to small and stringy so I stopped giving him that on Sunday. He was also very lethargic and quiet. His appetite now is non-existent. He’s not wanting even his most favourite vegetables. I’ve been syringe feeding him and he hasn’t lost weight, but he seems in pain even with the pain medication. I’m going to get him an appointment with the vets today, but depending on what the vets say, it might be the end for Bertie. I don’t want him to suffer if there’s no chance of recovery. He’s been a brave boy. If anyone has any advice at this point I’m all ears.

I’ve got an appointment at 2:30 for him. I’m hoping there’s something they can do, but I’m also preparing for the worst.

Bertie has been prescribed another pain killer and also another antibiotic. If there’s no improvement in his eating by Thursday, then it might be time to put him to sleep as he’s obviously in too much pain. Fingers crossed for him.

Sending love to Bertie and you. Here's to hoping these antibiotics work. Sending healing vibes your way.
