So today I noticed this morning my girl Erin was tilting her head a bit whilst eating breakfast. She seemed fine and was eating away.
This afternoon she really tilted her head when she cane out for food. Her breathing looking looks a little heavier too and she’s been scratching a bit more than usual.
They have no appts today (the only vets I trust with guinea pigs) so I’m calling first thing tomorrow. :(
I know she’s laying down in this pic but she’s trying to get comfortable.
I know it’s not a great idea to prescribe anything but could I give her a little metacam to help for tonight?

You can but if in doubt, please ask the vet clinic.

All the best!

Here’s a strange one, i just fed her some bristley parts of hay which I know she loves. She took one bite and ran off tilting her head and rolling on her side :( please don’t say another dental pig! I’m scared now she won’t eat due to it hurting her.
I gave her some metacam as I hate seeing her in pain

It doesn't look dental to me; more like her balance organ in the inner ear is now affected. :(

I don’t know what to do. She had another piece of hay and ran off in pain again 😢😢😢

The problem is not with the teeth but with earache. The sooner she can be seen for afast developing ear infection, the better. Can you call the vets again and mention that she has started falling over and losing her balance?

My guinea pig vet is 1hr 40 mins away 😞 and she said they had no appts at all today and to call to call tomorrow for emergency appts.
I could try a local vet but I don’t have much hope in them. I guess I could call and see what they say x

They could at least prescribe you an antibiotic.

Okay so the vet couldn’t properly examine her as she was so wriggly and squealing. She couldn’t see her back teeth due to food and couldn’t see in her ears due to the apparatus being too big 🙈🙈 so I’ve come back with nothing and she said to give loxicom which I have anyway.
Hopefully get some answers first thing.
Vet said it’s likely teeth issues as she walked along the floor no issues, no head tilt. Only when eating hard foods.
She just tried to eat a pellet and ran off again. Ate all the lettuce no issues but has ignored the rest and gone back to bed :(

Crazy but she’s been completely fine since I got home :S I wonder if something dislodged whilst she was looking her over? Very odd
