Hi. My poor Guinea Han Solo has been on baytril 0.2 conc at .30ml once a day for a snotty nose for the past week. He weighs 780g. He was on the mend and looked a lot better, eating, drinking and happy. Then last night he was tilting his head when eating so I took him to the vets this morning and they said it's not an ear infection or mites, they don't know what it could be. I'm heartbroken because I'm scared because he could be super Ill. They gave him an injection of dexadreson and I have to come back tommororw morning for another check up. Anyone have any experience with this? Or any advice or give me any hope that he could be okay? Thanks

Several things can cause head tilt; ear infection or ear mites are the most common, but other causes can be rather hard to diagnose.
Please continue to weigh him daily and if he loses more than 30g from one day to another step in with syringe feeding and water top up.

I am tagging some experienced members for you. How old is Han Solo and how long have you had him?

I think Abi will be best to help but I am curious as to how the vet ruled out an ear infection?

He's about 8 months and I've only had him for a month Tbh I think I may have misunderstood whether she ruled it out, I'm going back tommororw so ill make sure I ask all about ear infections. Both vets didn't seem very positive. I'll post tommororw after I've been, but he's been eating a lot today and drinking. He's just super lazy compared to normal. Sad times, I hope he gets better.

Vet has just given him another shot of the steroid as he seems to be a lot better today, still a mild head tilt but much more alert. He is going back to have another shot tommororw and then we will see how he is. But I think it looks good.

Sorry I haven't got around to replying to this. Glad to hear he's making improvements but concerning he was given steroids. I would suggest anti inflammatories instead if possible but these cant be given with steroids.

How is he getting on today?

Actually it was antinflammitories, my bad! His tilt is much better, only present when he's trying to sleep. His uri has got worse but he's still on antibiotics so that's ok. I adopted both my guineas from pets at home and it was the biggest mistake ever. I've had them little over a month and they've been ill since I've gotten them, both with Uri's, it's actually crazy. We are going back to the vets on Friday for a checkup so ill post when I know if he's okay! Thanks for the help.

My guinea had that and it was an ear infection, they gave him water with salt and something else and made me put in in his ear with a syringe once a day. the tilt never fully went away but you cant tell unless you pay attention. Hope your baby is doing better!
