I have a 2 year old guinea pig and I was wondering if this is normal behavior. Every once in a while when she gets comfortable on my chest before falling asleep. She tends to shake her head. Is this a normal behavior?

Are you petting her head at any point before she does this? My pigs will do it if I’ve been petting their head so that their fur falls back to its natural position

Maybe it could be that. It’s odd cause she only does it before getting comfortable.

Hi!

Is it a reaction to you stroking her or more like something in the ear irritating her? Unfortunately we cannot answer that question for you without more situational context.

It’s mostly when she gets comfortable on my chest, but not falling asleep. She starts to close her eyes then shakes her head. Kind of like she has something in her ears. It’s an odd behavior and I haven’t found anything on if or why guinea pigs do it.

It may be a build up of wax in that ear, but I can only guess. Only a hands-on vet examination can tell you. Please DO NOT home treat on spec as you can make things very easily worse rather than better.
