I'm going to make a C&C for my piggies, however I want to try and minimise hay getting EVERYWHERE as it does at the moment so thought I could try and make a hayloft of some sort that will contain it. Does anyone have any ideas about this at all? Or some pictures of theirs they could show me? :))

you can contain the hay from spilling over to the lower levels by clothes pegging teatowels over the grid walls - like my photo

I dont know about the loft part but at least this will help with the spill over to the bottom level.

Another idea would be A4 plain paper sheets attach by sellotape to the grid walls :))

hope this helps:{

I use a cat litter tray with hay in it, they do drag some of it out over the fleece but it contains most of it.

I did try building a hay rack. I was concerned about them getting hung up in metal one so I built it out of cardboard and it worked really well in that they had plenty of fresh hay to eat that they didn't wee on. However, over the course of 3 months first 1 pig, then the other got a minor eye infection. They cleared up quickly with drugs but I was concerned that it was caused by bits of hay dropping in their eyes from the rack as they ate.

I've removed the rack and no more eye infections have occurred. I realise only 2 data points does not make for a statistically significant conclusion but I didn't want to take the risk.

The hay tray is a reasonable compromise for me.

I have this, and it works very well. It's about 6 or 7 inches square.
In this picture it is in its paperboard container, but the entire thing is a wire cage "V" shape that folds flat, has the hooks you see on all four corners so you can mount it with either side facing out, and has that small hook at the bottom to carry a round salt and mineral block with a hole in the middle. (Red actually nibbles on the block from time to time.)

I put my hay in a cat litter tray - it helps contain the hay but some does get out. There was a post the other day about hay racks which had some good ideas in it.

I used to use a cat litter tray as well. I found it very handy, though our boar used to like knociking it around the cage till I placed a large flat stone at the entrance. rolleyes Now I've a new piggy on the block I like to keep a few piles of hay on the go so no competition; but hope to go back to using the litter tray again soon.

Other than the ones I posted to hay rack thread, here are some more of my old hay lofts.

2x2 loft:

1x2 loft on two sides of the cage with ramp connecting them in the middle

left side:

removable hay loft, made from plastic container attached to wood beam with zip ties. The wood beam has cup hooks to hang to the cage side.

This is what my Piggies have at present. The girls have a seperate loft to Tufty as he is still segregated untill he has his conkers removed.
