Is there any type of hay that guinea pigs can't be around? is there a type they can't eat but can play in or use to sleep on, and they know they can't eat it. I know obviously they can eat timothy hay, as this is what I buy for them. But my dad is a farmer, he grow's hay. I don't know what kind. Is there more then one? Dumb question, there must be. What about straw? Can they be around straw? My dad used to have cows and he used it for their bedding, I remember them never eating it. Just laying in it.

Thanks for any help!

Because this is boring.

Here's a pig.

awww they are cute :) there are different types of hay and i believe they can eat them all.

straw is a nono as it can cause injuries as its a lot coarser than hay. also shouldn't be eaten and isn't very absorbant as a bedding.

It's not for them to eat, and isn't really a bedding. I have fleece but my pigs always pull their timothy hay out of there hay rack and then walk all over it. So I figure if I got them a hay to play in, that I stole from my dad so it wouldn't cost me anything, they would leave there hay rack hay alone so they will always have clean hay to munch. I just don't like the idea of wasting there timothy that I buy.

I asked my dad and he grows Alfalfa and Brome Mix. I have no idea what Brome Mix is but I know alfalfa is only good for babies and pregnant pigs.
