Hello, I have seen many people on youtube and this forum use haytrays for their gps. I am curious as to why you guys use them, what they help with and their general purpose. Also some questions, do you put hay in them or under a hay rack? What are the pros and cons of a hay tray? And should I get one or not?

I don’t use a hay tray - I scatter the hay in piles around the cage so my girls can munch and burrow to their hearts’ content.

I use a hay tray (cat litter tray) as mine live on fleece. They do most of their poops in there. Just bought a new one that is massive and they have enjoyed getting right into the mound of hay! I don't know why I started that way, just think i saw them and thought it was a good idea. works for me.

We have some corner hay trays in our fleecy cage area, we use Rosewood rabbit litter trays. Theoretically it keeps the hay contained in one place but of course it doesn't! We also have a hay room and a hay loft with floor hay, the trays are more so my spoilt piggies dont have to walk 6ft to get to their hay, also they tend to pee and poop most in the hay trays so we clean them daily then that helps keep the fleece clean and we know they always have some fresh clean hay that hasnt been on the floor or used as a toilet :)

I use large hay trays with puppy pads in the bottom. I’d love to just do big piles but the piggies are on fleece. The boys did have a hay tray a long time ago. I will probably make them again when I can be bothered...

I have 3 cages containing pairs of boars who are bedded on fleece. I use containers for hay as it helps to keep most of it off the fleece. I use a large plastic box with a doorway cut in it, pet carriers with the doors off, cat litter trays and sometimes a small dog bed. Large containers mean they can eat, sleep and burrow in the hay. They also mostly pee and poop in the hay which makes cage cleaning much easier.
