ok so I’ve switched to fleece, so far so good but how do I get the hay off?

I’ve tried brushing it with a dust pan brush and shaking it vigorously in the garden but it’s still covered.

Anyone got any genius ideas or special hay removal tool?!

No, sorry. We change hay everyday fully but impossible to get all old strands off.

Do you wash the fleece in a horse bag in the washer?

We give ours fleeces a good shake outside and use a scrapper for stubborn bits and then wash them - not usually much hay remains. Our washing machines filter is at front so we just make sure it is clear before and after the washing. So far so good!

I brush the cage liners with a stiff bristled hair brush. It gets a lot of the hay and fluff off.

The trick is to try and not to get it on the fleece in the first place, I know that is not always possible, but we place our hay in trays or boxes cut into trays. Ok, sometimes we get up in the morning and it looks like they have had some sort of party/rave during the night :lol!: but it helps :)

Ps: The boxes from Majestics Wine which hold 6 bottles work a treat. Chop them in half, add a cut away and job done. Plus you also get 6 bottles of wine, cheers! :D

The boys are behaving and keeping the hay where I put it but the girls, goodness knows what they get up to while I’m asleep!

Ha ha but first I’ll finish using the excuse ‘but I need to buy the Easter eggs for the boxes for the Guinea Pigs!’

Stray hair on fleece... a nightmare we all have. Stray hairs on fleece, t shorts, fleece tops, my work fleece which doesn’t go near the piggies, the rug... the list goes on and on.

Curry combs and pink marigold gloves help to reduce the problem.

Try a hand held vacuum works a treat

It usually says on it.

I used to use fleece blankets I found in shops but they get ugly very quickly and it’s very hard to get hay out of them.
Anti pill fleece is a lot thicker and softer and I find that the hay comes off very easily. It’s better quality and it doesn’t get ruined as quickly.
Most fleece liner makes use anti pill fleece :)
You can find loads on eBay:
