I find the sticky threads across the forum really useful. Just wondering why we don't have any stickies in the Food section for reviews of hay, like the ones already there for reviewing dry food?

Finding the right hay seems to be a perennial hot topic and I know I'm not the only one who finds it all a bit of a minefield, judging by the amount of different threads looking for advice on this important matter! mallethead
We have some really knowledgeable hay experts on here, so it'd be great if we could get their reviews all collated together somehow, all in one place for easy reference.

I know it'd take up a fair bit of space as there are loads of different products, but the main brands and varieties would be extremely useful if at all possible. Any chance pretty please? :))

Sounds like a good idea! Perhaps, along with stickies reviewing the main brands of hay...

Oxbow
Dust Free Hay
Burgess
VitaKraft VitaVerde
Local Farm Hays
Dried Grasses:- Readigrass/Just Grass

(and any other major brands I've missed)

...we can have (another) reference topic, this time listing what to look for in a really good quality hay?

Not sure if I've already written that or not in the Feeding sticky in Reference though. :{

Or...a much better idea...have a list at the start of every hay review sticky advising what to look for in a good quality hay.

I would really appreciate this as well, at the moment my piggies are on cheviot hay but it's a little dry and bland looking and they didn't seem to eat much of it which worried me so I use it for bedding and burrowing now and have bought them a bag of excel chamomile(timothy with chamomile) herbage which they seem to like much more but I would appreciate a steady suggestion on a staple hay that isn't to costly/relatively easy to acquire and is good for their long term health, there are so manyout there it's very confusing what to choose and what is best :{

Having come from a previous horsey backround I find it very hard to swallow the prices of hay for small furries! With no room at home to store bales of hay, I'm stuck with forking out for the hay at pet shops.

The piggies came to me with "My little friend" hay which was dried out and dusty. I moved them on to Burgess Excel timothy hay which they enjoy. Recently I bought Burgess Excel timothy hay with dandelion and marigold. Alot of that gets left as waste on the bottom of the cage.

So now I've forked out for Alfalfa King's timothy hay (Having been recommended it a few times).... Having recovered from heart staggers at the till in P@H I went home and put some in their hayrack.... we'll see how it goes.

With the delivery charges to N.Ireland I'd rather avoid ordering online. TBH I'd prefare to find a decent brand on the shelves in pet stores that isn't as pricey as the Alfalfa King.

Enough of my rambling! Yes, stickies on various hay brands and what to look for in good hay would be very useful please. 8;)
