I know some of them are dangerous but I have no option but to use one at the moment, I have a guinea with a parasite and his hay needs to be off of the floor of the cage so he's not eating contaminated hay.

Does anyone know of a safe one that I can use with a C&C cage until we clear this parasite please?

Thanks.

@Kerrie74 I'm sure there's a tutorial somewhere for making hay bags, I've a feeling your Mum is handy with her needle? Sure someone who knows where to find tutorial will be along in a minute, if not bet you can find it on Youtube!

I've got hay bags that my Mum made @piggieminder & @MerryPip but I'm a bit weary about using them again do to contamination. I need something I can put in and remove easily for cleaning probably daily. It doesn't even have to be a rack or bag, any ideas are welcome, I'm also trying to cut down on the amount of washing which we're doing due to Cesaro having this nasty parasite.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I bought a standard metal one that hangs on the side of the cage.
I told the woman in the pet shop that I was slightly worried that one of the pigs might get stuck in it, and she suggested I just weave some (guinea pig friendly) edible sticks through, to make the gaps smaller. When the pigs eat the sticks - replace.
I thought this was a pretty good idea actually.

@PiggieHerd (I think) had an interesting plastic tower with holes in. A carrier bag holder from Ikea? Some on the forum use a bent c & c grid attached with cable ties. I feel very nervous of those metal balls and racks after hearing so many horror stories hope you find something soon. I appreciate your dilemma with having to get hay off the floor with the contamination.

I've got one of these, the piggies love it
Hmm, I have been eyeing up one of those.
Do they eat the rack too?
And do they knock it over - my lot seem particularly wild, and have a tendency to overturn anything that isn't nailed down.
I think it looks great, but have visions of it collapsed on it's side with 3 pigs sitting triumphantly on top within minutes.

I use metal hay racks on the side of the cage, these are attached using cable ties so that they can't move away from the side of the enclosure. The gaps are small, one of them by design, and one because I adapted it by adding in another wire grid, also secured. I also use toilet roll tubes stuffed with hay, but I'm not sure if this is appropriate for your situation! Good luck with the parasite, sound awful!

Nah they nibble it sometimes but not much.
Beans climbed into it once and sat there eating like she's queen of the castle, but they've never overturned it :P

Thanks
I used a bit of strong cardboard to bridge the gap,I done this so the hay wouldn't fall through but now you've said that I'm glad I done it anyway I'd never forgive myself if that happened

Ours overturn it so I've put an old fashioned flat iron in it. It fits perfectly upside down and make it really stable. Ours like to hop in and sit in it too.

i use the green ones from Pets At Home and pit it very high up in the cage so they can only reach the bottom. to be honest an toy can be dangerous..

I have the folding hay rack from Manor Pet Housing which works really well, even though they stand up against it it's never fallen over. Beware your wallet though looking there as they have some lovely things!

Ive recently used some of the Easter egg boxes we have and cut the hole that's in the box bigger and used that as an extra hay feeder. I made a hole in the top and tied it to the c&c cage bars so it doesn't fall over. They love it.
