So my step mom brought me this *hay* she asked the shopkeeper for hay and he gave her this. However I’m a bit suspicious if it’s straw. I understand not to feed them straw as I’ve done research and I haven’t fed them any just in case it is straw. Can anyone help distinguish?. Usually I stick to one type of hay but it’s taking forever to come so I’ve had to find other options sadly.

It does look like straw to me - in the second picture I can see the ‘fatter’ stalks that are typical of straw. What is the texture like?

Are there any seed heads in it? My first reaction is straw, but the timothy hay I've got also has much thicker stems than other hay we've had so it does all depend on the grass - it might just be a coarser stemmed variety (or it might just be straw, but...)

I’m not going to risk it, I’ll return it haha. It’s not been opened so fingers crossed

I don’t want to open it since it cost £5 so I’m hoping I can return it since it hasn’t been opened. I’m not going to risk it[/QUOTgood idea, dont let the shop man tell you its hay or that your pigs can eat it. It has no nutritional value
Its just waste wheat i think

I thinks it’s straw too, it’s very yellow, whereas hay should be greenish and finer strands.
