Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of building a hayloft for my pigs. They are in a 3x4 C&C cage and the loft would probably be 1X3. Have people found that they need to support their lofts with a pillar or similar, or are the walls of the cage enough?

When I had my 3x4 I was intending on having a 3x1 hayloft, although it never got finished. I didn't put anything underneath for support and did store things on top, although they wouldn't have equalled the weight of all of the piggies if they all went up at the same time. It looked like this

If it looks a bit unstable, I would get a couple of bits of wood and slot them through the panels underneath the loft floor for support. B&Q do 19mm x 38mm x 1.8m lengths for £1.22 each - You'd just need to cut to length (might even be able to get this done in store) and then maybe sand the ends by hand to get them to slot in. The grid squares are 38mm so might just need to take a tiny bit off to get them to slot in.

My old cage, I didn't have any supports.

I didn't have any supports and 3 pigs were in it at one time :)!
